UNDP Supports NEC to build capacity of Political Parties on Electoral Operations

December 22, 2020

The training for political parties combined lectures and practical exercises designed to help contestants exercise their right to redress, as needed.

In support of the National Elections Commission (NEC), and in coordination with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), UNDP Liberia organized a two-day training for candidates of political parties, and other stakeholders on post-election complaints and campaign finance reporting.

Post-election complaints are critical following the conclusion of the Special Senatorial Elections, by-elections, and Constitutional Referendum.

At the same time, political parties have a legal obligation to submit their campaign finance reports.

Campaign finance reporting and disclosure are important measures to inform the public of the financial support given to electoral contestants, thereby promoting transparency in the campaign finance system.

Using a combination of lectures and practical exercises, the training exercises held on 14 and 21 December 2020, helped the electoral contestants to exercise their right to redress, as needed, and to fulfil their obligation under the Campaign Finance regulations.

UNDP Liberia Elections project also supported NEC with the development and printing of variety of documents and materials which were distributed to the electoral stakeholders.

The activities were funded by the UNDP Electoral Support Project, with contribution from Germany.
