About us

All UNDP activities are undertaken in close collaboration with the Government of Liberia, international and national non-governmental organizations, UN Agencies, financial institutions, and civil society organizations in order to contribute to stability, security and peace.

UNDP's support for the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), puts partnership at the centre of its work. The cultivation of strategic partnerships as a vehicle for helping to empower lives and build resilient nations is critical to UNDP Liberia’s support to the Government of Liberia in achieving its national development agenda and priorities.

Consequently, UNDP has built strong partnerships with the Liberian Government, international partners and civil society in order to maximize the overall impact of development assistance and cooperation in the country.

UNDP innovative and results-oriented programming is made possible by the personal, financial, and professional commitment of all partners. UNDP’s national and international partners are an integral part of the decision-making processes and UNDP works directly with them on all aspects of the development cycle from program and project design to implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (formerly the Ministry of Planning & Economic Affairs), is the most important partner, taking the lead in building a peaceful and prosperous Liberia. UNDP also works closely with other government Ministries and Agencies, Commissions, Public Institutions and Civil Society Organizations, particularly in the areas of access to justice, sustainable development and good governance.

Through its responsibilities to coordinate efforts to reach its SDGs, UNDP supports the Government to improve the lives of the people of Liberia through a participatory process of awareness raising, technical support, policy expertise and the coordination and implementation of initiatives that align with the Government’s national development agenda.

In addition to its results-oriented development programming, other strengths that UNDP brings into these partnerships include convening power, Influence on both civil society and the private sector and a crucial role in aid coordination which seeks to ensure the most effective use of UN and international aid resources.

Regular project board meetings, an Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee and annual reviews of UNDP in Liberia’s programme ensure that all partners are engaged and able to evaluate UNDP’s activities and achievements across various sectors.
