HR/VacanciesUNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Post Title : National Programme Officer / UNIFEM This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates. Background: UNIFEM is the United Nation Development Fund for Women, and mandated to work within the United Nations system, with governments and with the women's movement to support the realization of women's human rights and empowerment towards increased gender equality. UNIFEM established a country presence in Liberia towards the end of 2004 with an objective of supporting women's full participation in, and empowerment through, the reconstruction and development process in Liberia, as reflected in the UNDAF, geared towards the achievement of the targets set by the people of Liberia in the interim Poverty Reduction Strategy (iPRS), and contributes toward Liberia's efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). While, UNIFEM has initiated support to various projects in the thematic areas of SGBV, Gender Justice, Women's Human Rights, Leadership in Governance as well as Feminized Poverty, UNIFEM is embarking on development of a country strategy and long-term programme for it's engagement in Liberia to consolidate and expand existing initiatives. It is in this context, that UNIFEM wishes to recruit a National Programme Officer, who shall under the direct supervision of the Country Programme Manager, provide technical, monitoring and evaluation support to gender equality and women's rights programming of UNIFEM Liberia. Summary of Principal Functions: Under the overall supervision of the Regional Programme Director, UNIFEM Anglophone West Africa, and under the direct supervision of the UNIFEM Programme Manager in Liberia , the Programme Officer will provide technical and monitoring and evaluation support to UNIFEM programmes in Liberia . 2. Major duties and responsibilities:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: A master's degree in economics, agricultural economics, or other related field with some experience in gender and development. Experience and knowledge of current women's human rights issues in Liberia , and a clear vision of potentially workable strategies for addressing those issues are prerequisites. Ten years of relevant working experience and knowledge of programming will be an advantage. Additional qualifications: Good written and oral communication skills, Gender analytical skills, personal commitment and result oriented capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds. Good knowledge of Word Processing, Excel, Power Point, and web-based research will be necessary Must be a Liberian Email application to this vacancy should be sent to vacancies.lr@undp.org .
