This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates.

1. Summary of Principal Functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Programme Director, UNIFEM Anglophone West Africa, and under the direct supervision of the UNIFEM Programme Manager in Liberia , the Programme Officer will provide technical and monitoring and evaluation support to UNIFEM programmes in Liberia .  

2. Major duties and responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the UNIFEM Programme Manager (PM), develop programmes and provide technical leadership in support of women's economic empowerment, and the promotion of gender equality in relevant policies and development frameworks.

  • Assist in the identification, development and design of programmes/projects within UNIFEM's mandate, reflecting a result-oriented approach and benchmarks. Consult Agencies and Government departments for joint or coordinated projects. Develop project documents for discussions with the PM and RPD.
  • In consultation with the PM, explore, identify and follow-up resource mobilisation opportunities for UNIFEM in Liberia and elsewhere. Draft and monitor budgets for projects under direct responsibility, and assist in the preparation of annual budget revisions in consultation with the PM.
  • Participate in project/programme planning, review and monitoring, as well as in policy dialogues with government and prepare reports/notes for the file on such meetings.
  • Assist in providing gender and programme management technical support to UNIFEM partners, and in the planning and running of workshops and the follow up UNIFEM activities, ensuring timely submission of reports by consultants and NGOs.
  • In collaboration with the PM, support the operations and activities of the UN Gender Theme Group.
  • Performs other duties as may be required by the UNIFEM Programme Manager, and the Regional Programme Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

•  A master's degree in economics, agricultural economics, or other related field with some experience in gender and development.

•  Experience and knowledge of current women's human rights issues in Liberia , and a clear vision of potentially workable strategies for addressing those issues are prerequisites.

•  ten years of relevant working experience and knowledge of programming will be an advantage.

Additional qualifications;

•  Good written and oral communication skills,

•  Gender analytical skills, personal commitment and result oriented capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

•  Good knowledge of Word Processing, Excel, Power Point, and web-based research will be necessary

•  Must be a Liberian
