Post Title : Project Engineer (County) – FOUR POSITIONS

Organization : UNDP - CBR

Duty Station For CBR Field Offices in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County or Saclepea, Nimba County or Tubmarburg, Grand Cape Mount County and one post for Monrovia

Duration : Initially –one year

Type of Contract: Service Contract SC-6

This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the County Coordinator and Project Engineer/Monitor the Project Engineer (County) is to perform the following duties and shall spend 80% of his time in the field:

• Pertinent to the project document, review and assess the project area, needs and priorities of the community people using participatory methods analyzing socio-economic and technical data. Assist the community people to identify, select and prioritize rural infrastructure to meet their felt needs.

• Provide support to all CBR project requiring technical expertise in engineering, including assessment and evaluation of project proposals, quality of construction materials, etc.;
• Assist the DEX Service Center in assessing the technical capacity of implementing partners;
• Provide technical backstopping to the NGO and community people in supervising the implementation of community-driven projects with construction components;
• Monitoring of approved/on-going projects;
• Evaluation and certification of completed projects;
• Perform other duties as may be required.
• Assist the County Coordinator & Project Engineer (Monitor) by providing all the necessary information about the individual infrastructure projects and overall progress.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree (B. Sc) preferably in civil engineering, construction engineering or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related area.

EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum of five years working experience in similar areas related to Construction of water supply, sanitation, school building, clinics, roads, bridges and community infrastructure;
* Substantive knowledge of issues and challenges in the area in humanitarian response in post conflict situation in Liberia.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

* Excellent working knowledge of MS Office-Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Intra-Internet etc;

* Familiarity with UN procedures preferable;

* Must be self-starter with excellent demonstrated teamwork skills;

* Sound judgment, excellent analytical skills, strong networking and interpersonal skills, ability to plan, organize and coordinate work and to cope with a demanding workload is expected; and

* Excellent analytical, monitoring and evaluation skills.

LANGUAGES:

Fluency in spoken and written English.
