BACKGROUND:
The National Information Management Centre (NIMAC) is a technical assistance and capacity building project developed jointly by the Liberian Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) and UNDP to respond to the data and information needs of the government and broader development community in Liberia.
The need for accurate statistics and information products and services is imperative at this stage of Liberia’s development. In addition to supporting the national development agenda via the iPRSP and tracking progress made towards the MDGs, significant information management capacity is needed to promote accountability and transparency and support national aid coordination efforts.
In concert with its partners, nimac aims to:
• Build information management capacity within the government, in particular LISGIS;
• Support government with information management services and products;
• Promote common standards and best practices;
• Support the monitoring and tracking of progress of key development frameworks within Liberia, the iPRSP and MDGs.

Management Arrangements
As a member of the nimac Technical Team, the GIS Technician will report to the nimac Senior GIS Officer. The GIS Technician will also work closely with all staff in nimac to ensure that the flow of information is conducive and supportive with other aspects of NIMAC’s work.

The incumbent also performs the following duties:

• Provide GIS and mapping support to nimac and its partners.
• Under the direction of the Senior GIS Officer undertake data cleaning and data development tasks using excel and available GIS software.
• Work with nimac clients and partners to develop mapping products according to standardized templates and symbology.
• Promote data standards within the GIS user community in Liberia.
• Represent nimac in various coordination fora, explaining GIS tools, products and services.
• Support capacity building initiatives to nimac partners as required.
• Any other duties and tasks as assigned by the Senior GIS Officer.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of an Associate Degree.
• At least two years hand on experience with GIS Software (including ArcGIS).
• Demonstrable GIS editing skills, vector data maintenance as well as tabular data maintenance and construction.
• A diploma in GIS, Geography and/or Computer Science.
• High proficiency in the use of MS Office applications especially Excel and Access.
