JOB SUMMARY

Under the overall guidance of the Economic Advisor and direct supervision of the National Economist, the Research Associate ensures effective delivery of the CO Programme by managing data and supporting Programme implementation consistent with UNDP rules and regulations.

The Research Associate works in close collaboration with the Operations, Programme and Projects’ staff in the CO, UNDP HQs and stakeholders as required for resolving complex Programme-related issues and exchange of information.

FUNCTIONS/KEY RESULTS EXPECTED

Summary of Key Functions

* Collection and analysis of socio-economic data
* Support to management of the CO Programme
* Administrative and technical support to the strategy and policy unit work
* Facilitation of knowledge sharing

Specifics

1. Supports implementation of the CO Programme focusing on achievement of the following results:

* Collection, analysis and presentation of the socio-economic data for the preparation and production of NHDR, MDGR, LER and other strategic studies of the unit

2. Provides effective support to management of the CO Programme focusing on the achievement of the following results:

* Works closely with government agencies, multilateral and bilateral agencies, NGOs and UN Agencies to design and develop instruments for the conduct of surveys, in preparation of CO research documentation as well as inquiring from UN-HQ, government and donor agencies
3. Provides administrative support to the Strategy and Policy Unit focusing on achievement of the following results

* Participate in technical meetings and prepare reports, minutes and other documentation
* Respond to communications directed to the Unit
* Provide support to special events and capacity building activities
* With ATLAS knowledge, provide support to SPU-managed activities and projects

4. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the CO focusing on achievement of the following results

* Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in programme
* Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

* University degree in economics and statistics or related fields;
* 5 to 6 years of progressive experience in database construction and management, data collection and analysis, surveys and operational research;
* Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems;
* Excellent written and oral communication skills;
* Ability to take initiatives for pre-emptive measures and most efficient and effective approach to achieve results; and
* Highly motivated, flexible and capable of working under pressure.
