Over 25 critical staff from line Ministries, Agencies and Commissions (MACs) benefitted from a three-day intensive onboarding training through the Cabinet Secretariat Capacity Development Program of the Government of Liberia.

Delivered through the Africa Cabinet Government Network (ACGN) with funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the training was used to introduce newly appointed Cabinet Focal Persons (CFPs) to their role in the Cabinet process and to the revised Cabinet Guide for MACs as well as to provide necessary information and skills to perform distinct roles, responsibilities, functions and duties.

The CFPs are expected to play a key role in helping their MACs to prepare evidence- based and informed proposals for Cabinet and prepare regular reports for Cabinet on the implementation of decisions.

On behalf of UNDP Resident Representative Pa Lamin Beyai, Deputy for Programme, Cleophas Torori described the partnership with the cabinet secretariat as a critical facet for the promotion of profound reforms that would help the government make the right decisions.

Torori noted that performance management is a core function of a governance reform process which also requires generating evidence based data and information sharing.

At the same time, the Director General of the Cabinet Jordan Sulonteh expressed appreciation to UNDP for the continued partnership and urged trainees to use the skills needed to help the government deliver the right services to its people.

Mr. Sulonteh recognized and commended the selection of the caliber of beneficiaries which he described as “the best minds” that play very pivotal role in the everyday functions of the government.

He prayed the commitment of the team towards helping to improve the functions, operationalization and coordination of the cabinet.
