Justice Ministry Graduates Specialized Unit Officers

The BCR Specialized Investigation Unit is responsible to investigate jail breaks and other unwholesome acts within the prison system

The Ministry of Justice through the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation (BCR) has graduated eight officers of the Specialized Investigation Unit who completed a weeklong Advanced Investigation Training in Monrovia.

The effort is being supported by the United Nations Development Programme with funding from the Governments of Sweden and Ireland.

The BCR Specialized Investigation Unit is responsible to investigate jail breaks and other unwholesome acts within the prison system.

The Deputy Minister for Codification, at the Justice Ministry, Cllr. Nyenanti Tuan on behalf of Justice Minister Musa Dean lauded the Swedish Government for its support in the conduct of the training.

Cllr. Tuan who also lauded the UNDP for its continuous efforts in providing additional skills to the officers, expressed special appreciation to UNDP Country Director and his team for the support which boost the training of the officers.

For his part, the Assistant Minster for Corrections and Rehabilitation, Eddie S. Tarawali also thanked the Swedish Government and other Partners including Irish Aid, and the United Nations Office of Human Rights (UNOHR) for the support given the Government and people of Liberia.

Minister Taliwali challenged the BCR officers to make use of the knowledge and urged them to effectively execute their professional duties without fear or favor.

The five day training focused on topics in basic investigative security techniques-Advanced Investigation, Intelligence Information in Prisons, Investigation Skills, Reporting system, early Warning System Prison Security among others.

It was facilitated by 2 officers from Sweden.

The Investigative unit of the Bureau of Corrections was established in 2016 and has conducted several investigations.
