EU/UNDP Present Vehicles to GOL Decentralization Programme

Mar 27, 2015

The European Union (EU) through the UNDP will on Monday present 8 vehicles, purchased under the Liberia Decentralization Support Program (LDSP) to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in support of the Government's ongoing de-concentration effort.

The presentation of the vehicles will fulfill a commitment made by the EU, during the formal launch of the Government's De-concentration Platform in the City of Gbarnga, Bong County on February 18, 2015.

The first counties that are expected to benefit from the vehicles are Bomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Rivercess, Grand Kru, River Gee and Maryland, and the remaining counties will receive their vehicles under next year's work program.

The presentation of these vehicles is being made at a time the Government is undertaking a major policy reform, to bring services closer to citizens and residents in rural Liberia and will be a major boost to service delivery to that segment of the population.

Currently, the Liberian Government, with support from its international partners, is implementing the LDSP, aimed at promoting shared governance and local economic development.

De-concentration of services to the counties is a necessary first step to achieving successful decentralization in the country.
