Jul 15, 2016

Participants at the training were drawn from line Ministries, Agencies, Civil Society Organizations as well as UNDP Staff

The United Development Programme (UNDP) has conducted a three-day refresher training for its staff and partners on Results Based Management (RBM), Programme Assurance and Risk Management.

The Exercise held July 12-14 2016 was intended to improve the understanding of UNDP staff and Implementing Partners on enhanced RBM platform and its specific application to day-to- day programming.

It comes in the wake of an urgent need to step up national and subnational capacities to implement, monitor and evaluate programmes in priority sectors and to achieve results.

Speaking at the opening and closing of the training, UNDP Deputy Country Director for Programme, Cleophas Torori spoke of the uniqueness of the training which he noted will help UNDP Staff and partners apply useful tools to their day to day competencies to improve delivery of quality programmes and reporting results.

Speaking on behalf of Partners, Rebecca Gaye of AWEP expressed appreciation to UNDP for organizing the training, assuring that, the knowledge gained will immensely help build their skills in Results Based Management and timely reporting.

The three-day exercise comes against the backdrop that UNDP’s Strategic Plan (2014-17) underlines the necessity of improving the quality of programmes and projects and outlines a strategy to achieve.

Work is already ongoing in embedding these principles into programming through UNDP programme and prescriptive content is changing with new concepts emerging like enhanced RBM, theory of change, better targeting, use of evidence in decision-making, problem-tree analysis, social and environmental standards, etc.

All these now require to be embedded into programming and integrated in all policies, approaches, tools and templates.

The training was facilitated by a team drawn from UNDP’s Regional Service Centre (RSC) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mamadou N’daw, RBM and Evaluation Advisor/Team Leader, and Ms Sophie Conteh, M&E Specialist, RSC/CST, Addis.

The over 25 participants were drilled on topics related to Results Based Management, Programme Assurance and Risk Management; developing performance indicators; developing baselines and targets; developing risks and assumptions etc.

It included interactive group discussions, presentations, group exercises and sessions.
