Our work in democratic governance promotes the maintenance of rule of law, access to justice, improving the efficiency and accountability of the public sector and minimizing corrupt practices. UNDP’s Governance & Public Institutions Programme seeks to bolster the efforts of the Government of Liberia in reforming and improving governance systems that adhere to and promote good governance and democratic values. Support to Elections
1.8 million people registered to vote in Liberia's 2011 elections of which 49% were women. Over 76% eventually voted.more
Projects and Initiatives
The Support to Elections Programme seeks to deepen the democratization process in Liberia, with specific emphasis on improving electoral institutions, processes and laws. More specifically, it contributes to strengthening the capacity of Electoral Management Bodies (e.g. National Elections Commission) to enhance electoral processes and to ensure that legal and administrative structures conform to international standards.more
UNDP’s Support to Constitutional Reform (SCR) Project, implemented in collaboration with the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and other development partners seeks to support the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) in advancing a people driven review and amendment of the constitution.more
