AID COORDINATION

Given the outlined national capacity gap and the heavy reliance on donor assistance, the need for Government capacities and structures for effective management of aid is paramount. To address this UNDP provided technical assistance to establish aid effectiveness in government institutions and provide the mechanism for generating, analyzing and disseminating statistics across national priorities. In addition, UNDP supported the Paris Declaration survey consultations and donor data collection. Support was also provided to the government’s participation at the High Level Forum (HLF) on Aid Coordination attended by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Accra, Ghana (September 2008). Substantial technical support was also provided to the Development Ministers forum held in Monrovia immediately after the Accra HLF.  The technical assessment for the web-based Aid Management Platform was completed in the third quarter of 2008 while the first phase of implementation commenced in December 2008.

Priorities for 2009:

  • Strengthening PRS pillar coordination mechanisms.
  • Strengthening national aid management structures and frameworks within government institutions.
  • Roll-out of the aid management platform web-based tool.
