DDRR Trust Fund Activity Report
This activity report of the Liberia DDRR Trust Fund covers the period December 2003 to August 2004. This multi-donor Trust Fund is managed and administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The DDRR Programme is currently in its third phase of disarmament and demobilisation. During the period covered by the report, a total of 68,062 persons have been disarmed, and a total of 63,851 persons demobilised. These activities have taken place at a total of five cantonment sites in areas outside of Monrovia. These figures include both adults and children (up to the age of 18)….

UNFPA DDRR Project Addressing Reproductive Health (RH) of Ex-combatants, particularly women and adolescent girls in the DDRR Process in Liberia. The project was designed to address the reproductive health/HIV prevention and psychosocial needs of ex-combatants as well as host community members in the project areas. The objectives of UNFPA’s DDRR programme were to sensitize and create awareness among former combatants and host community members on RH issues such as safe sex practices, STIs/HIV prevention, proper use of condoms, gender concerns……..

WHO’s Supervisory role of the Health Component of the Liberia Disarmament, Demobilization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Process. The implementation of a DDRR programme in Liberia was one of the sine qua non conditions accepted by all parties following the signature of the Accra Peace Agreement in August 2003. Formal Education Update
Please find here an update on the Formal Education process, including details of current education institutions contracted and number of ex-combatants in those institutions. It is evident that we have been able to place into schools 7,202 ex-combatants in 103 institutions in the country. However, the total number of ex-combatants who met the minimum requirement for admission into schools under the current academic calendar year is 11,000. This leaves a shortfall of 3,798 who could not be supported under the Trust Fund due to lack of financial resources.
